CompassPoint Mentorship empowers youth through artistic expression and mentorship. Our mural program connects high school students with professional artists to create meaningful public art that beautifies our community while developing students' skills, confidence, and sense of civic engagement.

Project Name: Mural Painting for the Hellyer County Park Velodrome Restroom 
Project Location: Hellyer County Park (985 Hellyer Ave. San Jose, CA 95111)

Benefits:

  • The murals enhanced the aesthetic appeal of both the public bathroom and the park.

  • The murals have deterred graffiti.

  • The murals are likely to attract more visitors to the park and encourage healthy activities such as biking, hiking, family gatherings, and interest in nature.

  • Park visitors have gained knowledge about local flora and fauna through the murals.

  • Youth participants in the mural project learned about water conservation, trail maintenance, and local ecosystem protection, and they shared their experiences and reflections with their friends and family.

  • By incorporating Native American elements, the mural fosters respect and awareness for indigenous cultures.

  • Involving students in the mural's creation promotes a sense of ownership and pride within the school community.
