Youth Committee Meeting Recap and New Projects

The Youth Committee meeting on March 8, 2026 focused on sharing progress, introducing new projects, and planning upcoming events. The meeting reflects the group’s mission to help students turn ideas into real-world action through mentorship and leadership .

New Project: Park Historian and Digital Documentation

A major highlight of the meeting was the launch of the Park Historian and Digital Documentation Project.

This project focuses on Alviso Marina Park and Overfelt Gardens Park in San Jose, with a timeline of about six to eight months .

Students will work on preserving history while promoting Chinese culture. This includes researching historical sites, building 3D models, creating virtual tours using 360° images, and helping with park restoration.

There are also opportunities to join cultural events, document progress through photos and videos, and support advocacy efforts for these parks.

Upcoming Event: Cybersecurity Hackathon

The team is planning a cybersecurity hackathon at Stanford on April 19 from 2 PM to 5 PM .

The goal is simple. Teach students the basics of cybersecurity in a hands-on way.

The event will include training sessions and activities, giving participants a chance to learn by doing.

Data Science and AI Projects

The Data Science and AI group is working on a wildfire prediction model.

The goal is to predict the probability of wildfire impact across different time frames such as 12, 24, 48, and 72 hours .

Students are improving their models, testing different approaches, and preparing for future events where they can apply what they’ve built.

Youth Employment Research

The Youth Employment Project is using a tool called NotebookLM to support research.

This tool helps analyze sources, answer questions, and generate summaries with citations .

Students are focusing on understanding youth employment patterns and improving how they collect and analyze data.

Public Art and Mural Projects

Several mural projects are in progress across different locations, including Milpitas, Alviso, and Uganda .

One key project involves collaboration with students in Uganda. However, this work is currently paused due to safety concerns in the area .

The team continues to work on designs and plans while waiting for updates.

Sustainability Initiatives

Sustainability projects are also moving forward.

Students are working with solar cookers for a summer camp and planning an Annual Green Festival focused on environmental awareness and everyday sustainable choices .

These projects connect learning with real-world impact.

Robotics and Aviation Projects

The robotics and aviation teams are focused on hands-on building and experimentation.

Students are building and testing drones, working toward a drone light show, and meeting regularly to improve their systems .

There is also a NASA internship where students will work on drone-related research and aim to produce technical papers.

The meeting showed strong progress across many areas.

Students are not just learning concepts. They are building, testing, researching, and creating real projects.

With new initiatives starting and events coming up, there are many ways to get involved and contribute.
