Adopting Overfelt Gardens Park

The Youth Committee is taking steps toward adopting Overfelt Gardens Park in San Jose as part of its sustainability efforts.

This project focuses on improving and maintaining local community spaces while giving students a chance to take part in real environmental work .

What Has Been Done So Far

The team has already started working on this initiative.

Catherine and Aiden met with city officials and volunteers on March 14, 2026 to complete the first site investigation at Overfelt Gardens Park .

This initial step helps the team understand the park’s condition and what improvements may be needed.

Moving the Project Forward

In addition to the site visit, the team has submitted a mini-grant application to support the adoption of a park near the Alviso Branch Library .

This shows that the project is not just an idea. It is already in progress and moving forward with planning and support.

Why This Matters

Adopting a park allows students to take an active role in their community.

It creates opportunities to:

  • Support environmental sustainability

  • Improve public spaces

  • Work with local officials and volunteers

This project connects learning with real impact by turning community service into hands-on experience.

The Overfelt Gardens Park project is still in its early stages, but important steps have already been taken.

As the project continues, students will have more opportunities to get involved, contribute to the park, and help create a lasting impact in their community.
