CERT Disaster Preparedness Training

Members of CP Mentorship recently completed a two-day Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training at the San José Fire Training Center, gaining essential skills to better serve and protect our community during emergencies. The training was led by professional CERT members and retired firefighters who brought real-world experience and practical knowledge to each session.

Throughout the program, participants learned the fundamentals of disaster preparedness, including how to respond calmly and effectively in high-stress situations. A strong emphasis was placed on rapid triage, allowing team members to quickly assess injuries and prioritize care when resources are limited.

The training also covered team organization and coordinated response actions, highlighting the importance of clear roles and communication during emergencies. Participants practiced using fire extinguishers safely and effectively, building confidence in handling small fires before they escalate.

In addition, members were trained in basic search and rescue techniques, including how to safely assist someone trapped under heavy debris while minimizing risk to themselves. Personal safety was a recurring focus, ensuring that responders understand how to protect themselves while helping others during a disaster.

This CERT training has strengthened CP Mentorship’s emergency readiness and reinforced our commitment to community resilience. We are proud of our members for taking this important step toward being prepared, informed, and ready to support others when it matters most.
