Bringing Color to Our Community: Milpitas Library Community Painting Day
This past weekend, the sidewalk nearby the Milpitas Library transformed into a hub of creativity and connection as neighbors of all ages gathered for our Community Painting Day! With paintbrushes in hand and smiles all around, volunteers came together to bring a vibrant new design to life on the library’s nearby fence, turning an ordinary barrier into a beautiful community landmark.
The day began with the unloading of paint supplies, but soon progressed into the actual painting. We were especially honored to have Mayor Carmen Montano join us, showing just how much our city values public art and community engagement. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as families, students, and locals pitched in to make their mark.
Here’s the design that inspired us all:
As the sun rose higher, so did the colors on the fence. From little ones adding bright pops of color to adults carefully outlining details, the mural truly became a collective masterpiece. The fence is beginning to tell a story of unity, creativity, and the power of coming together for a common cause.
A few snapshots from the day:
One of the highlights of this project was our innovative use of virtual reality technology to transfer the design onto the actual fence. Using a VR headset, we were able to project the mural outline and trace it accurately, ensuring that every detail of the original artwork came through. Although our muralist, Simon Bai, was the one doing most of the tracing, everyone who attended was given the opportunity to try it out for themselves. It was an amazing blend of art and technology that made the process both precise and fun for everyone involved.
We’re so grateful to everyone who came out to help — your time and energy made this possible! If this sounded interesting to you, we have two more Community Painting Days: July 19th and 20th! Don’t miss it :)
