CompassPoint Mentorship at Day on the Bay

October 17, 2026 | Alviso Marina County Park

Books, project displays, and a busy red-covered table brought CompassPoint Mentorship into conversation with the community at Day on the Bay on Saturday, October 17. Our student volunteers and adult supporters welcomed visitors, introduced our programs, and shared the work our young people have been doing.

Held along the South Bay shoreline at Alviso Marina County Park, the free festival was presented by Santa Clara County Parks and the District 3 Office. This year's theme, "A Healthy Earth, A Healthy Life," connected environmental health with opportunities for families to learn, explore, and meet local organizations.

Sharing projects through conversation

Our booth gave visitors several ways to get to know CompassPoint. A display of past projects introduced the breadth of our activities, while books and printed materials offered something people could pick up and explore. The photographs capture volunteers leaning into conversations, showing visitors the table, and making room for families to browse.

Copies of One Way Mission were part of the book display. Nearby, colorful paper crafts and small puzzles added a hands-on element to the table. Brochures introduced CompassPoint's learning and service opportunities, and flyers shared information about CATS and upcoming community events.

Together, those materials gave our volunteers concrete starting points for explaining the organization. A book could begin a conversation about a project; a brochure could help a family find a program; a display could show how an idea develops into something others can see and use.

Students welcoming the community

Community outreach gives young people practice in presenting their work to an audience beyond their usual classroom or group. At the booth, students stood alongside adults, listened to visitors, and helped introduce the projects on display. The day offered room for both prepared explanations and the questions that arise in a face-to-face conversation.

The photo collection also records the practical work behind a public event: arranging the table, setting out materials, and getting ready to welcome people. Those details matter. A clear display and an attentive greeting make it easier for a visitor to stop, ask a question, and learn more.

Thank you to our student volunteers, parents, adult supporters, and everyone who stopped by. We also thank Santa Clara County Parks and the District 3 Office for bringing the community together at Alviso. We look forward to continuing the conversations that began at our table.
