Cupertino Library — Community Room 201, 2nd floor, near the Quiet Study Room. Check in at the Adult Reference Desk.
A free two-hour workshop with the twelve student authors of Wings of the Hornet: where history actually lives, how to read a primary source, and how notes become a chapter. Then you write a short passage yourself.
Free · no ticket · open to the public
What we will cover
- Where history actually lives — archives, logbooks, photographs and oral history, including the vast amount never digitized
- How to read a primary source: what it tells you, what it implies, and what it quietly leaves out
- How notes become a chapter — structure, narrative and citation
- A short writing exercise from a real USS Hornet document, read together in the room
Led by the twelve student authors — Bryan Ma, Kellyn Hu, Angela Tang, Alexandra Liu, Annie Wang, Selena Zhang, Roland Wang, Jiayu Gu, Shawn Zeng, Irene Lin, Elaine Zhao and Michael Tang — with George Retelas, Historic Advisor and Editor at the USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum.
Wings of the Hornet: The Airmen and Aircraft of CV-8 and CV-12 in the Pacific War was researched aboard the museum ship and publishes in April 2027.
