Solar cookers are a keystone in many communities to provide practical sustainable forms of cooking where traditional fuel sources are minimal. These devices are essential in reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting accessible energy and a future built on clean energy.

Following this goal, Compass Point Mentorship installed new solar cookers at 3 separate campsites to educate campers on the importance of solar energy and skills to effectively use a solar cooker. This year, the summer camp aims to diminish the use of polluting fuels to support a healthy environment.

Solar cookers are used by focusing light on its reflective surface onto a single point. Trained volunteers partnered with campers to make their lunch.

Used on a daily basis, campers used the instruments to cook steaks, hamburgers, skewers, hotdogs, dumplings, bake cookies, etc. Using this novel technology, the cooking camp quickly became one of the highlights on each summer campsite.

CompassPoint Mentorship is excited to continue its mission to support sustainable practices and push for green solutions!
