Celebrating Alviso's History

On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, CP Mentorship was invited to present at a special Second Harvest of Silicon Valley event at the South Bay Yacht Club in San Jose to celebrate Alviso history. The event brought people together to learn more about Alviso, its history, and the changes happening in the community today.

Selena Zhang, a 9th-grader from Homestead High School, gave the presentation after researching and compiling Alviso's story. She shared how Alviso has changed over the past century, from its agricultural roots to the challenges it has faced and the opportunities ahead.

One of the main messages of the presentation was that Alviso is a promising land with a rich history and an important place in shaping California's history. As the community continues to grow and change, it is important that we preserve its history and make sure its stories are not forgotten. The presentation also connected Alviso's past to its future, including the construction of Second Harvest of Silicon Valley's new home in Alviso.

It was really exciting to see how much the audience enjoyed the presentation. Many people were surprised by the facts they learned and shared that they had learned a lot about a community they did not know much about before.
