Come Find Us at Day on the Bay

On Saturday, October 17, CompassPoint Mentorship will have a booth at Day on the Bay in Alviso. Come and find us.
The festival runs 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Alviso Marina County Park, hosted by Santa Clara County Parks and Supervisor Otto Lee. It is free, and around four thousand people are expected.
What you will find at our booth
Our students will be there with the work they have been doing this year — the committees, the camps, the projects. If you have wondered what CompassPoint actually does, this is the easiest way to find out: ask a student. They will tell you better than we can.
If you are thinking about joining, or your child is, come and talk to us. No appointment, no sign-up, no form to fill in beforehand. Just turn up.
Why Alviso matters to us
This is not a festival we are visiting as strangers.
Alviso sits at the southern edge of San Francisco Bay — once the Port of San José, now a quiet neighbourhood surrounded by salt ponds and wetlands. Our students have spent years working here. They have made a documentary about the ponds and the people who live beside them. They have researched and commemorated Thomas Foon Chew, the Alviso cannery pioneer, on Hope Street a few hundred yards from where the festival will be. They have studied the environmental pressures on this stretch of shoreline — rising seas, flooding, habitat loss.
Day on the Bay carries the line "A healthy Earth, a health life." That is the same ground our students have been standing on for years.
